Cover of Parade magazine

I shot pro Bass fisherman Skeet Reese in action for Parade magazine, coming out this weekend in all the Sunday papers.  Parade is America’s largest circulation magazine (37 million). Second is AARP(!) with 24 million.

I flew up to Auburn in January with my assistant Nico and staged a sunrise with powerful profoto packs and magnum reflectors on the beach to provide a glimmer of sun on a cloudy day.   Skeet showed up as the day began at the hotel with his custom F650 truck and trailer in tow – it must always grab attention as the lobby front desk emptied toward the window.  We headed toward the nearby lake, raindrops falling occasionally.

I donned a wetsuit (it was January in the Sierra foothills) and brought my camera with 24mm wide lens to the waterline – the fish-eye view.  The strobes fired via Pocket-Wizard radio-links while Nico dialed in the lighting as I needed it.  Skeet could cast and drop his lure with precision, placing it right in front of my lens from twenty or thirty feet away.

Here are some more outtakes from the day (click for larger):

Skeet and his family were great:  he’s straightforward, driven and doing what he loves.

Something we should all aspire to.
